Movement
I'm in Florida so I decided to get my exercise today by walking the city. I spent about 3 hours walking all over town exploring. I stopped periodically to read or have lunch. Back at the hotel I spent some time playing in the pool (mostly doing leg and arm exercises because I don't know what else to do). Although I've been feeling a little frustrated about my body image I'm happy to report that I did get noticed at the pool ... well, it was a seven year old boy but I think it still counts.
Nutrition
I'm trying different foods now that I am post chemo and foods do taste a little different (I no longer like hamburgers or mac and cheese). We went to dinner at a Spanish restaurant and everything was very tasty! Dinner was followed by Flamenco dancers performing - kind of felt like I lost weight just watching them.

Today I read the most recent article I found on first-gen college students. It was published March 2010! There is an inspiring idea in there about how family relationships are very important as a factor in persistence theory, especially for first-gen students, that is left out of our current models of student persistence. Maybe my dissertation can build upon this idea???
ReplyDeleteTomorrow I plan on reading some more and writing a one page blurb about my ideal study--as I see it right now. I need to turn it into Dr. Phelps, as she has agreed to encourage me to stay on track by the end of the day tomorrow [by 5PM really, because Steve is coming over tomorrow to hang out on main street and get dinner with me! :D :D :D]
All in all, life is really good right now. I just really need to dive into this dissertation process. What great timing in starting an accountability blog Sara!! I had decided to really dive in by tomorrow at the beginning of this week :)
